L.A. Noire is a crime-solving game set in the 1940s Los Angeles Police Department, where you are an officer of the law solving crimes, arresting suspects and interrogating witnesses. The game offers an experience that is both realistic and compelling; with its own movie noir style. The game features six cases to solve as well as some side missions that focus on cars, film reels and hidden collectibles, among others. L. A. Noire consists of seven cases and side missions and the city is set in 1947 Los Angeles. The game features a cover system, allowing you to hide behind cover and take cover from enemy fire. The player can also search for clues and interrogate witnesses, with the "Intuition" mechanic bringing forth key evidence for a case. The player has access to a notebook that they can use to take notes as well as a map where they can check objectives and crimes scenes. The game's protagonist is Cole Phelps, played by Aaron Staton (who previously played Ken Cosgrove in Mad Men). A decorated war veteran who now strives to be a detective legend on the L.A police force. The game follows his investigations and his interactions with the people he meets, such as his partners (Franklin Clinton and Ralph Roberts) and the female police officers working for him (T-Bird). The game features a soundtrack by Hendrik Meurkens, Kevin McLeod and various local bands.On January 14, 2012, Rockstar Games officially announced that L.A. Noire would be ported to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 14, 2012 in North America and November 17 in Europe for use with the Xbox Live Arcade service via backward compatibility. The release included all downloadable content from the original release of L.A. Noire, including "The Naked City", "Cotton Club", and the "Deuces" bonus scene. The release also included a new mission called "Beneath the Surface". In August 2013, a remaster known as "L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files" was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Australia, with a worldwide release planned for 2014. This version features all of the original's DLCs from the original release, including additional photography from different angles from varying difficulties with interactive touch-screen support. In May 2015, Rockstar announced that they were working on a remaster for L.A. Noire, for release on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This version is up-resed to 4K resolution, has multiple rendering methods including temporal anti-aliasing and high dynamic range lighting. It also features an enriched color palette, new cinematic camera angles, including over 130 additional animations not present in the original game. The Windows version did not support DirectX 11 or 12, while the console versions did. It was released on November 14, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a retail release in Japan on January 17th 2018 due to Rockstar's partnership with Japanese publisher Spike Chunsoft.
